configure error : cannot compute suffix of object files


Hello,
I have reached chapter 6.11 of my first lfs build and I have an error onfigure error : cannot compute suffix of object files

Oops I wasn't finished
I read some of the same errors on this forum but my problem seems to be
different.
Even when I type gcc -v and I am in the /tools/bin directory it still says
No such file or directory
Even though I checked it and it is there
I don't think the solution with the export PATH will work in this case
