Compliling a version of linux through an external hard drive?
Hi.
I've been considering the idea of my own distro ever since I first started out. But there is a problem: I can't expand my pc any further. To go around that I'd like to add an external hard drive and experiment with that. Is it possible? Is there a way to make an external hard drive behave just like an internal one? -Thanks |
Pretty much, you'd have to build things like USB/Firewire into your new kernel and ensure your existing distro had support for it (USB or Firewire depending on how it connects, or whatever other way it might ;) ).
Other than though, I don't see a problem until it comes to booting, but I'd think you could accomplish booting from a boot loader on an internal HD that'd then point to the root filesystem on the external drive and all would be well from there ;) Cool |
Thanks!
I opened up my computer today and found that it actually had an extra slot for the hard drive. Fantastic. |
Cool, save yourself the hassle! Right on ;)
