Chapter3 BLFS

I've successfully finished the 6.4 LFS tutorial and have started with the BLFS. I have already made custom scripts for the new users and have successfully created a new user. Now that I am starting to install software as this user, and according to the manual it states to install as a user. Well starting with autofs I want to install "wget" and "Openssl". BTW, I am chrooted into the partition. And I am in my "sources" folder, that hasn't changed any permissions since starting BLFS. I run the command "su - (username)" and it logs me into my new user account.
Now I am trying to patch the OpenSSL before compile, and I am getting this error:

Quote:
patching file FAQ
Hunk #1 succeeded at 681 (offset 1 line).
patch: **** Can't rename file FAQ to FAQ~ : Operation not permitted
So I re logged into root and chmod 1777 the folder. Thinking that I would have permissions to rw this folder and files and I am still getting this error. I know this has to be some sort of permissions I am missing.
BTW should I do this all as root including the configure? Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.

Got it...

I just had to do a ls -l and had seen the default ownership with a group id of 1001 of myhost box. Just changed ownership to 1000 of my new user I created.
