Chapter 6.7 and beyond. Hey, wait a minute.........

Didn't we already do this? Is it just me, or is chapter 6 repeating many of the things chapter 5 did? Why can't we merge /tools into /usr? Why do I have to do this all over again?

Nice extemporaneous rant there. If only we knew what book you were talking about we might commiserate.

No rant here. I like LFS. I'm using book SVN-20100412. A dev book.

Hi,

The reason why is explained in the book. I'm going through it myself (currently at 6.33). It's all there for a reason but hey if you feel that you don't have to repeat things already done because of the change in toolchain, then that's up to you.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi,

Basically the following is done:

1) build a very basic temporary system that you can rely on 100% and is tailored to build the real LFS system (chapter 5).
2) use this temporary system to build the real LFS system (chapter 6).

The books also tells you this in more detail, as EricTRA already stated.

Hope this helps.
