cannot login as user 'lfs' [su - lfs]

just started with lfs 6.0. added group and user lfs as instructed in chapter 4.3, but now cannot login as user lfs.

[root@172 maya]# su - lfs
env: PS!: No such file or directory
deleted the user and added it again, but the same problem exists.

any ideas on how to fix this?

does the user have a home directory?
if it does not, try using su without the minus (-)
su lfs
