can t boot lfs from livecd

Hi all,

First of all, let me say “hello” to everybody as this is my first post, and thanks all for making this forum existing.

Now, if anyone has got an idea about that, your help would be much appreciated:

I try to reboot my pc with the lfs livecd. I got the lfs “splash screen”, giving me choice between boot or F1 for options. Then looks like my hardware gets identified as i see all the hda, hdb, hdc, hdd scrolling down and all seems ok (btw, yes i am a newbie;-). But after that nothing happen, lfs just don t get loaded. All i can do then is force my pc to reboot, remove the cd and load my original distro (fc6).

I've read on some forum that this kind of issue could be a kernel not up-to-date. So I've updated it with “yum update kernel”, still the same. I've downloaded the ubuntu livecd, and all is working fine with the ubuntu livecd, so I assume that my system has got enough memory...

I've been stuck for a while now, trying to find answer on different website. I just can't figure out what's wrong.

If anyone could help, would be great!!

Thx,

G

Hi,
Did you receive the prompt with the greeting text message?

Hi,

Not sure which prompt you are talking about. When I boot the pc, here is what I've got:

- first the bios boot,
- then I've got a single line saying “ISOLINUX Copyright... Peter Anvin”
- then I've got the LFS blue and orange splash screen and a few lines like: “this is the official LFS livecd version x86-6.2-5 Press [enter] to boot or f1 for more options”
- then back to a black screen with a few lines scrolling down, seems to recognize graphic card, ide and hard drives, last line looks like “hdd:ATAPI 40xCD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)”, and after that, nothing happen, I can't even write any command with the keyboard (sorry, I guess it would have been more useful to provide a full and decent log file, but as I can't boot, I don't think I can have access to any log file...)

Also, for information, I run with AMD ATHLON 1700+ 1.47GHz and 256Mo RAM (5 years old). But as ubuntu livecd was ok, I believe my system is ok?

Thanks for your support,

G

hi,

after struggling for a while now, i eventually got the fix:

one of my pci card has not been used for a while and was probably not even working anymore, or driver missing or something wrong with it. Since i removed it, all seems ok (right, i haven t been that far yet, but at least i can boot now)
for some reason ubuntu livecd didn't care about that but lfs does.

c ya
