can't sign in as root


Hey everybody I've made through the lfs book until chapter 5 section 31 where it says to change ownership i run this command chown -R root:root $LFS/tools as shown in the book and I can't change it and I can't sign in as root can anyone tell me how to do this? Thanks

You mean 5.34? And what are you typing? Since you signed in as the lfs user by way of the "su - lfs" command in 4.3, all you should need to do now is type "exit" to get back to root.

Nah, don't worry about it. Believe me, I've had plenty of times where I was searching for an answer that, in retrospect, should have been completely obvious but that somehow wound up taking me forever to figure out.

Linux gives new meaning to the phrase "D'oh!"
