can't find xfontsel

So I'm having some odd problems in my BLFS 8 since getting xorg in. I tried to run xfontsel as part of the investigation and ... no such program. Oh. Searched in the BLFS8 book. Nothing. Now I have the full "flat" book, suitable for offline reading, so even an offhand reference to xfontsel would have come up. Nope.

Startpage. Nope. Mentions of it, but no link to a project page or a download.

Google. Nope. Did get a link to a github and it was one of those pages where any link you click goes to itself. Yeah, right.

The X11 site mentions xfontsel. Yeah, but coyly fails to mention what package it is part of.

Right: so I must be retarded. Can someone clue me in and link me to the xfontsel package? Thank you very much.

The best I can find on the x.org site is:
http://xorg.mirrors.pair.com/X11R7.0...-1.0.1.tar.bz2

Slackware has xfontsel-1.0.5

It's one of the standard Xorg applications. You can find the link to the list in the "Xorg Applications" section of chapter 24. I don't know why it wasn't included in the list of applications to be downloaded.

Aha, I see now. https://www.x.org/archive//individual/app/ is a list of xorg programs and one of them is xfontsel (at https://www.x.org/archive//individua...-1.0.5.tar.bz2 ) . Whew! Thank you.

Agreed! I've never seen a distro where it was not included as part of even the most minimal x-windows setup. How else can one diagnose font problems?

OK, mark it as solved. And if my post helped you, you can mark that too.
