Question BLFS - X windows system; a simple query.

While i was following the instructions for the Fontconfig-2.4.2
i discovered that,for the second part of the instruction , we need to log in as "root".

Aren't we suppose to log in as "root" for the whole of BLFS?
Would i break anything if i use "root"
for all the compilations of BLFS?

Thanks in advance.

Code:
./configure --prefix=/usr \
    --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var \
    --disable-docs --without-add-fonts \
    --with-docdir=/usr/share/doc/fontconfig-2.4.2 &&
make
then log in as "root" for the below.

Code:
make install &&
install -v -m644 doc/*.3 /usr/share/man/man3 &&
install -v -m644 doc/*.5 /usr/share/man/man5 &&
install -v -m755 \
        -d /usr/share/doc/fontconfig-2.4.2/fontconfig-devel &&
install -v -m644 doc/*.{html,pdf,txt} \
        /usr/share/doc/fontconfig-2.4.2 &&
install -v -m644 doc/fontconfig-devel/* \
        /usr/share/doc/fontconfig-2.4.2/fontconfig-devel

You have to be root to do the install step. The configure and make steps don't need to be executed as root and it's really not a good habit to get into. IIRC, all the instructions say "Now, as the root user:" before the step that installs the package.
