I am having trouble compiling autoconf-2.59 that is specified in LFS 6.1.1. It drops out with an error while in the m4 test directory. m4 was installed previously and compiled and checked without errors.
I tried to download a new copy of the package with the same results. I also tried version 2.58 - same results.
I compiled bash and file after this error with no problems.
I solved my autoconf compile problem. Everything else in chapter 6 compiled fine except autoconf and autmake that depends on autoconf.
When I was cleaning up my directories, I noticed that perl was linked to the perl version that was made in chapter 5. I removed that link and then recompiled perl. After that, autoconf and automake both compiled perfectly.
It is strange that perl was linked to /mnt/lfs/tools since it had be re-compiled after that early in chapter six. I had to delete the link before perl would install the new version correctly.
I'm really enjoying LFS. What a great learning tool.
Just wanted to thank you - I too had this problem during my (currently ongoing) 6.2 build. Your fix worked like a charm ;-)
Anyway, I also had a problem with perl. Regardless of whether I used Configure or .configure, two of the makefiles ended up with an extrentuous 0 on a line all by themselves. A quick shift to another terminal and a hack using vi sorted it, but it kept heppening!!!!
