8.4.2-Configuring Grub

I have been multi booting for a couple of years so I know how to use these commands
grub> root (hd0,5)

Error 21: Selected disk does not exist

My LFS is on hda6

mount -v -t ext3 /dev/hda6 $LFS

So what could be causing this error

Ok at this point I should have more in my /dev file besides console and null. I am not sure what step I missed.

edit-I made the mistake of not mounting the /dev in section 6.2 before chrooting in after I had logged out before chapter 8.
