OS : Red Hat Enterprise Linux V.4 AS (Update 2) , 2.6 Kernel
Server Installation went fine without any problem and LUN also created at storage level.
The LUN Size is 6TB single volume. The OS is identifying the LUN as /dev/sdb for the whole size 6TB. When I trying to create a entire space as a single partition i am getting the error "value out of range", by default it's creating the partition size
of 1.7 TB. I'm not in position to create big Partition for 6TB.
I refer the red hat site, RHEL V.4 AS kernel v 2.6.9 will support up to 8 TB.
But it s not happening at real scenario.
Can anybody tell how to create single 6TB partition & mount on RHEL 4.0 AS.
My only problem is creating partition for the size of 6TB. After creating partition, I can use either ext2 or ext3 file system, but the issue is Partition for single 6TB disk.
I used “fdisk” and “parted” utilities. Using both I could not create. The maximum partition size in “Fdisk” is 1.7 TB, and the maximum partition size in “parted” is 1.5 TB, in fdisk, If I specify maximum cylinder size, It’s giving value out of range.
The commonly-used MS-DOS partition table format can not be used on devices larger than 2 TB. For devices larger than 2 TB, the GPT partition table format must be used. The parted utility must be used for the creation and management of GPT partitions. To create a GPT partition, use the parted command mklabel gpt.
