Question SLES 10 sendmail how to


Hi tried to stop sendmail and spamassasin on SLES 10 however when ever i loggin to a different user its still up and running.

can anyone teach me how to stop sendmail and spamassin on SLES 10 via console ? thanks

IIRC Suse uses the service command. Have you tried (as root) service sendmail stop and service spamassassin stop? If spamassassin is started by sendmail you probably won't need the second command.

They will start again after a re-boot so you will probably need to use chkconfig to stop them being automatically started (or clear the executable bit on their start-up scripts.

postfix is the culprit

I have this another mail server software that is telling me a certain port is being used. at first i was thinking of sendmail is the culprit ,decided to stop it but still whenever i run this mail server software it says port is being used.

Then i found out postfix is also running i stop post fix using (root) and everything is ok now.

I was just wondering why SLES 10 has two email server running postfix and sendmail.

is this by default ?
