server spewing out over 8000 old mail messages
 

my server is spewing out 8000 old emails from testing of a shell scripts, they are going to the distribution list of users who were to approve the output and I am getting those plus my own. not sure why this is happening. /var/spool/mail and mqueue are empty, the job that generates the e-mails is not running. sendmail is the config out of the box, not using it as a mail server. running RHEL5.5
what is going on? i would like to prevent a recurrence of this. not the way i want to start a friday.

mqueue is empty, i don't know where they were stored, but it appears to be over.

Did you check both "/usr/bin/mailq" and "/usr/bin/mailq -Ac"?

I'm guessing they were stacked up in /var/spool/clientmqueue.
