RHEL5 licensing for Yum updates

Hello,

I want to use yum to update my RHEL 5 installation(On one system only). It does not allow me to do so without a license. What type of license would I have to buy? Would a basic subscription work for this or is a standard license required?

A redhat subscription should be already available, since RHEL5 cannot be installed without it (unless it is a trial version). Ask to the person who installed the system. Maybe you have simply to renew the subscription if it has expired.

Should the license be a desktop license or a server license? What is the difference between these two?

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Desktop only gives you access to a Red Hat Network channel that includes the full suite of desktop and personal productivity applications but lacks the server components.

Is your installation intended for productivity use? Because there are also community rebuilds of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Packages (e.g. CentOS) that give you access to packages but you will not receive support nor would you help Red Hat with your subscription fee to improve the upstream packages and guarantee future value.

Thanks guys. I downloaded the latest RHEL 5 version and all my dependencies are gone.
