RHEL 5 installation problem: need help
I am trying to install Linux enterprise 5 edition. I can install it to my laptop but when I am trying to install it on my desktop pc it is not working. I am describing the scenario plese someone help me to get rid of this problem. when I enter the DVD into the dvdrom and restart the pc it boots and prompts me for the installation process. When I press enter to install it, it starts but after sometime it is hanged with some informations showing on the monitor. the last message it shows is " ACPI: Assume root bridge [\ _ SB_.PCI0] bus is 0" . what this problem stands for?? I also tried the " Linux noprobe" option and " linux skipddc" option but the same things happen. My friend told me that it might happen that my hardwares are not compatible with this version. But my desktop pc's configuration is : Intel pentium Core 2 Duo Quad 2.40 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, 500 GB of HDD(SATA), Original Intel motherboard DG33 FB, but on the other hand my laptop's configuration is pentium 4- 2.8 GHz, 512 MB of ram, and 30GB of hdd. Please someone help me because soon I will be sitting for the RHCE exam. So, I need to practice Linux. please someone help me as soon as possible and tell me how to install bypassing this problem.
After applying this "linux acpi=off" option actually I am now able to start the installation proces. But Sir, the installation process starts in text mode and as I am a novice user I am facing a little bit of difficulties to install that. But I am quite familiar to install it in graphical mode. So, then I applied "linux graphical acpi=off" option. but the installation not starting in graphical mode. then I tried "linux acpi=off all-generic-ide" option. but this is also not helping me. please someone give me a better solution. |

If I were you I wouldn't worry about the RHCE test and start studying up on the text mode installer and command line tools. I mean, do what you wish, but that's what I've heard. |

Plus, since you're on your way to be a RHCE, you should know how to install in graphical and text modes... Good luck on your cert!!! |
I am too facing some problem during installation of RHEL5 on my laptop. It goes smoothly but only in text mode. My laptop configuration is Lenevo Intel Pentium T2330, Mother Board Lenevo IHL00, Chipset Intel GM965, 2GB RAM and 160 GB SATA Hard Disk. I could install Fedora 9 without any problem and in fact I am getting 3D desktop effect in Fedora 9. My only problem is that I am unable to get Desktop. But I could work in text mode without any problem. I am a newbie and planning to go for RHCE and for that purpose only I bought the Laptop. Please help.

iammasum, first of all you need you need to study boot-time kernel options. You have a nice PC to apply them too.
In text-mode, you do not use the mouse ...that is all. |

If you mean that you get through the installation, but don't get a desktop afterwards (just a prompt), you need to configure your X windows (set screen resolution, monitor, mouse, etc.), before you can run startx, or init 5. What default runlevel did you set? |
Try this option it will definitely work
Boot with the DVD and enter into the Kernel Mode the Option is F4
boot: linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf and type enter... |
i am very new to Linux.
Trying to install RHEL5: AMD 64 (3800), 2.5 GB RAM, ASUS M2N MX Motherboard. When trying to install, i get ACPI error, appears to be unable to set system time, some BIOS Bug... I tried updating BIOS but no go. Please assist. |
acpi problem
try just "acpi=off" and press enter ... by the way if you are prep. for rhce you should go for text mode installation , if that doesnt work for you then go to BIOS and disable acpi option in BIOS if it is enabled ,still if nothing works reply
|
you can see boot: at one point ,just type acpi=off there and press enter

If you don't know how to do a text install...you are NOT ready for the RHCE... There is really no difference in installation...most of the "important" options are available...(except for LVM). -C |
