RHEL's license key "missing" in registered system.

Hi,

Does someone know filename of redhat enterprise linux's lisence key? And also which directory it resides? I tried to google and search from redhat's site, but no help. I know this is quite "newbie" and trivial question but I would appreciate some hints...

Cheers

I guess I don't really understand. RHEL is open source, so it shouldn't have a "license key" a-la Microsoft Windows. You may have some sort of "service key" that allows you to get service from Red Hat. But it's my understanding that there's no license and you can install it on as many machines as you like...

I did find this though http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...ps-rhnreg.html

Well I think that is the matter we are searching for (service key). Problem was that the company we are consulting did not have any purchased packages of their system and they need some extension for software support. I think we have to do some "private investigation" about the matter. As you can guess previous administrators have vanished and the documentation is quite not so up-to-date...

Thank you for your answer.

I would try calling the red hat support line and see if they know where the subscription key resides. If the company maintained their subscription, someone at Red Hat should be able to find it from the company name...

Yes, I think that is the road we have to take. Maybe we try to contact previous administrators first but I think they are not in mood to co-operate. And people in here are quite "out" of everything what comes for their IT-infrastructure. Bummer...

Cheers!
