raid 1 encryption

Hello

I have my home folders of all my users in a raid 1 partition. I have been reading about encryption, and I plan to use dm-crypt to encrypt the home directories.

I appreciate that encryption is seperate from the filesystem and that it is possible to make my raid 1 partition encrypted.

My question is what happens when a drive breaks in the mirror. How will this affect the encryption?? I'm just imaging a situation where the data in the encrypted partition is not recoverable because it is looking for the second diskm in the partition!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Try unplugging one of the disks in the raid array to find the answer to this question.

You really won't know for sure until you try it for yourself.
