performance testing

I have two RedHat servers (version 5.4 Tikanga). One is installed on top of Vmware ESXi 4 and the other one directly on hardware.

I was wondering if anybody has any idea on how to run a performance testing for both of the servers so I can compare them.

By perfomance I mean, the speed of processing, read and write speed into hard drive etc.

I would like something simple that gives me an idea how one performs vs the other.

Thank you very much,

Genti

If u want to compare the performace between servers .
Than take a help of sar , iostat & top command .
Write a small script & schedule it on different time with 15min interval & redirect the output on different files .U can see the file & get the exact figure of performace .
