Nas
Hallo!
I am searching for a good Nas to store sound files. Backup would be done via RAID. Access controll is not needed, as everybody should read an write. No, it`s not for a mp3 server, its for a dication system. I already found the following open source projects: http://www.freenas.org/ http://www.serverelements.com/naslite.php http://www.openfiler.com/ http://cryptobox.org/ Does anybody use these systems ? Any suggestions ? Thanks |
clarification?
Could you add a bit of information as to why you want a NAS system? What are you looking to have it do for you (and/or your organisation)?

Sure, we have to build a digital dication system which needs to store a lot of wav-data files. As it could be that the files are not deleted correctly due to a lazy user, i would like to separate this system to a nas with raid1 a securety. Datavolume : not really sure about that but 100GB should be enough Network connection: 1GB maybe a bonding dev. |

Have you decided what hardware you want to use? It looks to me like you could use a NAS, or you could use a server with some method of file sharing (AFP,CIFS,NFS,etc). If you want a prepackaged HW+SW NAS solution, you might look at the offerings from Infrant. After a quick check, it looks like the desktop models run $600 and up with no disk. If you have an old computer you want to use, I would suggest you look at its hardware and check that against what is supported by OS it is based on. I would consider AFS, but that is probably overkill for your situation. |
Well as i would like to keep it simple I think I will use an old pc with some kind of good raid controller or I will use a software raid.
But never the less lets take a look at that appliance you talking about.... |

freenas seems nice and thin!
if the raid support is good i think i take that for the testphase! |
