mount : mount error 2 mounting ext 3 Pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sy
Hi i'm working on an hp itanium server with a 64 bit red hat4 operating system. every thing was alright just for one partition that was freezing
NOTE: not the / partition which is under /dev/sda anyway i have unmounted the /dev/sdb1 in order to fsck and re mount it again, but the problem was that the swap was on here i'm just trying to let you see what i have done. never the less i think that i have unmounted the root (/)partition by mistake and suddenly every think under the directories was lost ex if i access /data or bin root .....i can't see anything in it even the hidden (. ..) it is a blanked directory but if i know the pass to a sub folder for example /data/database/oracle ... i can access it easly but also can't find anything So i tried to reboot my system and this was a bad thing to do i couldn't access it again. So i tried to solve the problem by accessing one of the following : Red Hat enterprise Linux AS CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master) Windows server 2003 Enterprise Hard Drive /Pci(6|2|0)/Scsi (Pun0,Lun0)/HD(Part1,SigF504..... EFI Shell Boot Option maintenance menu Well i usually work with EFI Shell, while accessing it I can see the device mapping table but when i try to type elilo or any thing else EX Shell> elilo GET THE FOLLOWING : 'elilo' not found Exit status code : Invalid Parameter I also tried to boot from CD/DVD ROM GET THE FOLLOWING : loading.:CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master) Load of CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master)failed :Not Found Paused - press any key to continue I also tried to boot from Red Hat enterprise Linux AS Loading. : Red Hat enterprise Linux AS Starting : Red Hat enterprise Linux AS ELILO boot :"i typed" elilo got the following : elilo.c(line 70): kernel file not found elilo Start of Red Hat enterprise Linux AS failed: Load Error Paused - press any key to continue he return me to the main page [B]Red Hat enterprise Linux AS CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master) Windows server 2003 Enterprise Hard Drive /Pci(6|2|0)/Scsi (Pun0,Lun0)/HD(Part1,SigF504..... EFI Shell Boot Option maintenance menu i re boot from Red Hat enterprise Linux AS but without typing elilo this time i just hit enter i ve got the following : mount : mount error 2 mounting ext 3 Pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 umount /initrd/proc failed: 2 Freeing unused kernel memory : 368 kB freed kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel Thanks For your Support Regards Tony |
I think u might have killed your root partition (running fsck on it while mounted could very well do that)
If you're lucky, it might be repairable with another fsck. This time, run it from the Rescue CD. |
hi thanks for your reply but as i have mentioned before i tried to use the red hat cd but couldn't have the ability to access it
CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master) I also tried to boot from CD/DVD ROM GET THE FOLLOWING : loading.:CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master) Load of CD/DVD ROM/pci(1F|1)/Ata (Primary,Master)failed :Not Found Paused - press any key to continue I also tried to boot from ubuntu 8 cd and get the same error is there any kind of softwar like ubuntu that i can use And if you can send a hint on a way to use it Thanks for your support Regards Tony |
I believe this is a problem with it being an EFI machine. Seems the EFI is unable to boot any of your CDs.
I've no experience with EFI. Not sure how this would work. Sorry. |
