Unhappy Linux fails to boot

I have a backup server that is running redhat enterprise 3. After running a restore from a tape the server now fails to boot. it comes up with "grub" and a blinking cursor on the top lefthand corner of the screen. I have tried to reboot several times but with the same result.

This server has been working well for the past 2 months, and I have done a restore on it once before with no problems.
I have 5 130GB HDD's in a RAID 5 array, 2GB memory, 3GHz cpu.
I am using tapeware backup software.
Any suggestions will be appriciated.

It appears that the /etc/grub.conf or the /boot/grub/menu.lst file has been deleted or something.

One thing would be to use a live CD like Knoppix and check if that file exists and if not, restore it somehow or create it again.

Boot from first RHEL cd rom

select linux rescue

then type #chroot /mnt/sysimage
/
#grub-install /dev/hda

This will reinstall your grub in mbr

then reboot your system
