Limitations of System Processes and Oracle Processes in RHEL AS3.0

Friends,
Iam in a situation to increase the processes=250 in the spfile of oracle 9i database. Before the processes-150.I am getting the oracle max processes reached error.
is there any limitations in the operating system processes?
if i increase the processes=250 in oracle will it affect the RHEL AS 3.0 system processes.

our server meminfo...

$cat /proc/meminfo

total Memory = 2111123456
