How do I stay at a certain release level and not be automatically upgraded?

How do I stay at a release level (RHEL 5.4) and not automatically be upgraded? I'd like to continue to receive updates that pertained to 5.4 though.

turn off "auto update"

and pay red hat for the back ports to RHEL5.4

Right. It's been awhile since I explored this with Red Hat, but - last I checked - staying on a particular minor version (i.e. continuing to receive updates for it) requires a special license. Talk to your RH sales guy or gal.
