Hot swapping a scsi hard drive with Redhat ES 3
I got 2 question I would like to pose to the forum.
I have a Sun V20z server running Linux ES 3. It has 2 drive and is supposedly hot swappable.
Recently while testing out the server, we yanked out one of the drives on purpose to see what would happen. The result was that the entire system became non-functional, and I was unable to run any commands what so ever.
So i started a case with Redhat support to see what they say about it.
Their response essentially amounted to, it is not guaranteed that linux would support hot swapping raid drives.
So my question is, what are the experiences of others with linux raids and hot swapping? Is it capable of hot swapping?
And also does it make sense to mirror the swap on linux? The official documentation said that there is no need to, but something screams horribly wrong with this.
Thanks in advance to those who respond.
