Put in the Cd and boot from it or go to the mounted cd while in x. I tried booting from it and it said for install or upgrade, but it went through the sequence like a fresh install, so I canceled it. Is there a command I need to use?

Are you using the final CentOS 4 cd's? If you are using the rc1 release, get the latest.
