Creative soundblaster live 5.1 showing a strange problem in RHEL 4

Pc running on RHEL 4.
I use creative soundblaster live 5.1

The audio card is detected automatically and it works fine. The problem is that I cant have all the speakers 4(except center speaker)work simultaneously.I got in to volume control and adjusted the settings and i am able to make all the four speakers work fine but once i change the song in xmms or open a new file with mplayer the audio settings in volume control revert back to the old position.I never had this problem before in between i tried FC5 and came back to RHEL 4 and there started this problem. If any one had a similar problem and know some remedies plz do help me out.

Its really annoying to adjust the volume control each time i play a song in xmms.

Thanks in advance
