Want to give up your windows Active directory? Try ldap out. I am going to post the full how to on how to setup ldap either today or tomorrow at linux-militia.net . Its goal is to replace active directory or nt4 on your network with a linux based ldap/samba system.

I Agree, this would be completely awesome. I have tried seting up Ldap with trustix and i gave up cause it the configuration files would load properly when i started the server. But i could of tried harder.
But yeah a complete howto would be awesome.
And david_ross if you could post your version too that would be cool so that we could compare and try out things that might be different.
Sorry about the delay we are just putting some finishing touches on it. Its just finishing working/beta form and should be ready to submit by monday I hope. I want to make sure all the bugs are worked out first. Now this release of the document is on fedora but I am pretty sure it should work the same cross platform. Right now we have a full 100 windows user network and 50 linux user network running off the same ldap/samba database. Yes that means no active directory or any windows server for that matter. So it works and works very well. I will try to keep you guys updated and will let you know when its available. You can also check linux-militia.net for updates on this as well that is where we post all of my groups how to's.

sorry for the delay we had a issue we wanted to resolve before upping the full how to. Due to its complexity we are writing a script now to go with the how to so that should keep it from being so hard.
I'll tell you what I can do that on monday for ya. It will be a bit rough in two spots but other then that its a pretty smooth ride through the whole proccess.
That would be great, I've been looking forward to seting up a openldap based authenciation server maybe now i will finally have one more reason to do it
Looking forward to seeing it Maverick.
For everyone else who has tried and is still trying, you might be interested in a how to at www.zytrax.com/books/ldap/.
Its not complete yet and the writers have some way to go on some important chapters but they seem to be make a worthy effort to render the topic comprehensible
