Cannot make password Expiration changes to Linux REHL 3
Good day all,
I have some RHEL 3x systems which are not allowing me to make changes to password expiration. Meaning that I am setting the password to expire, but when it's time to log in, the system gets an error.
Error is:
Network error: Software caused connection abort.
I can get it back by using "chage -d 14496 (for Dec 8, 2009) and it allows me to log in again with the warning of:
***Warning: your password will expire in 0 days.
but does not prompt for password change.
Looks like you may need a combination of -M & -d options, according to the man page and/or http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...s-passwd-aging
Assuming chage hasn't changed that much. Haven't got a RHEL3 system to check. You could ask RH...
I had it set to expire today... I came in this morning to log in, and I simply get a Network error: Software caused connection abort.
and the putty session shuts down...
I have done the -M and -d14496 (for today.) maybe a PAM issue? maybe a sshd?
