AD/DNS for linux servers

Hi,

We are using infoblox for DNS. however, all windows servers use their active directory integrated DNS. can i use AD integrated DNS for linux servers? is there something special i need to install on linux servers in order to use AD/DNS? any special ports which need to be opened in firewall?

Hi jagdip,

Yes, you can use Windows/AD DNS server to answer queries performed by linux servers. Things you need to check:

1. Make sure port 53 is open on the firewall (if any between linux and Windows server)
2. You linux server should point to your AD integrated DNS servers.
3. If your Windows DNS server is configured to performed recursive queries for external site then well an good. If not, then you have to configure secondary DNS server on linux to make sure it can get answers for external queries from secondary DNS server.
