Question which hardware?

Hi,

I want to build up a small home-automation/entertainment system.

I am student of electrical engineering and won't have a house so quickly, but I am very interested to build something as shown on the following picture. I want a micro controller /computer in a bath serving as a music player and at the same time controlling the water temperature (connected and controlling a electrical heater).

I was looking around BlackFin Devices and on other homepages, but I could not find a similar case.

Can anyone give me some advices how to realize this project?

The blackfin DSP will do the job. But you'll have to do some hardware pieces and / or interconnections.
Take a look here: http://bluetechnix.com, they sell good quality hardwares for (in my opinion) good prices.
For the software part: http://blackfin.uclinux.org/gf/

some decisions

Hi,

I researched a bit about the i/o of the different controllers and expansion boards. Also about the price.

I came up with the following hardware setup. Of course not final.

Does anyone want to comment this?

The EZ-Lite is ~400 Euro (at farnell.de)
and the ic's cheaper than 5 Euro per piece.

I will think about it a bit more and maybe ultimately buy it.

Oh, does anyone have an idea about tft? It should be touchscreen and water proof... I mean the front cover. I would then think about a water proof frame so it can be installed in a tiled wall in a bathroom.

audio not supported on ez-lite

Hi,

I just found information that the audio on the ez-lite is not supported

http://docs.blackfin.uclinux.org/dok...ds:bf537-ezkit

So I might take the STAMP and buy the Audio daughter Card

Getting closer

I now refined my hardware platform.

I found a suitable touchscreen and switched to the STAMP with audio daughter board, because of the (apparently) missing support of the audio out by blackfin uclinux.

Here the new draft. Just in case some other newbie has the same problems finding the 5 suiting parts from 1000 available...

Now I'll start counting money :P
