Video using SAA7111A chip

Hi,
I'm working on an embedded system based on arm running linux 2.6.20.3. The device has a SAA7111A video decoder chip with an analog input for connecting the camera. I'm trying to get video streaming working but have not been very successful.
I've installed the SAA7111A driver along with v4l (videodev), both modules can be insmod:ed without errors and I can verify that they're there with lsmod. However, when insmod:ing saa7111 I don't see anything new in dmesg, does this mean that the driver doesn't really get started?
Where should I go from there? I've tried creating a device using mknod /dev/video0 c 81 0, but when trying to access it I just get "no such device", which I assume is due to the saa7111 driver not being initialized?

Thanks in advance

I enabled debug output for the saa7111 driver and now I modprobe it I get:

<6>saa7111.c: starting probe for adapter IXP4XX-I2C (0x10017)
<6>saa7111.c: detecting saa7111 client on address 0x48
<6>saa7111_attach: chip version 0 at address 0x48

Still no idea where to go from here though.
