Question Points to remember when Upgrading a kernel for a platform

Hi Experts,

I am having a TI board with mips + dsp procesor.

Currently we are using linux 2.6.10 but we want to upgrade it to linux 2.6.24.

So what points i should considered in my mind while upgrading.
or what are the section where i can get stuck?

Please help since i need to complete this assignment early.
