How to extract userdata.img
Hello friends,

I would like to extract userdata.img which is one of the firmware files complied under Android platform.

You can see what I have tried below:

benjamin@benjamin-virtual-machine:/GPL/tmp/userdata$ file userdata.img
userdata.img: VMS Alpha executable
benjamin@benjamin-virtual-machine:/GPL/tmp/userdata$ /GPL/unyaffs-master/unyaffs userdata.img
Can't determine flash layout, perhaps not a yaffs2 image

as for this situation, how to deal with it? Are there any other methods?

Any reply will be appreciated.

Is this from a nandroid backup? If so, download the 3 files from here >

./unyaffs userdata.img
If it works, you should see "end of image" when it's done. Keep in mine it will extract the contents into the current directory.

Hello replica9000,

Thank you for your advice, and I have tried it, unfortunately, it did't work:

root@gpl-vm:/GPL/userdata# /GPL/googleunyaffs/unyaffs userdata.img
broken image file

Did you see the code in the original post? I have tried to use unyaffs to extract this userdata.img, it is downloaded from
What't the difference between those two unyaffs.
