How do i validated the fd during FD_SET.

Hi Folks,
I want to know how to validate the FDs during the FD_SET operation.
I feel, during this operation one of the FD bit goes wrong, which leads the access of wrong FD.
i want to know the possiblites of the FD corruption.
FYI: This FDs are related to IPC vxselect.

Thanks in Advance.
