Compiling .c sources for a Brcm7401 CPU based settop box - setup environment

Hi everybody,

I'm trying now for a while to compile some sources to run on my mips (Bcm7401 - Broadcom) based settop box. All I found was that therefore a cross compiler is needed called 'mips-uclibc-gcc'.

Can anybody give me some how-to for setup a valid environment for compiling under Ubuntu 9.04, including where to get mipsel-ulibc-gcc. I've tried some stuff in between but without success .. I'm quite new to this area ..

Any help is highly appreciated
Regards catshout

Keywords for Google : 1) .. mipsel-uclibc-gcc ..
2) .. mips-uclibc-gcc .. ?

Thanks a lot! One correction .. The CPU I wanna develop for is a MIPS, not a MIPSEL. But these information are also included.

This site looks really promising http://www.kegel.com/crosstool, so far I'll have a deeper look into it within next couple of days.

See also, crosstool-ng, which is a more recent and still-supported package for building cross-development toolchains.
