booting new kernel

We have a xilinx zedboard with us for which we are trying to load a new kernel (linux-3.3-digilent...)
We have a xillinux kernel runnign on it presently.

We recompiled the new kernel and got the vmlinuz, System.map , initrd files.
Now to boot with this kernel is where we face the problem.
It does not have a lilo or grub.

/sbin/lilo returns with no such file or directory.

Lilo & grub are both x86-specific. Your board may have a proprietary bootloader, or some other bootloader such as U-Boot. Sometimes, the bootloader simply reads from a particular block of flash memory, or from a particular partition of a flash disk. Your board should document how the boot process happens, and how you load a new kernel.
What exactly does happen when you boot the board?

Thanks for the reply. The issue was sorted by just overwriting the sdcard image with the new zImage .
