mkfs.jffs2 utility

Hi,
I wanted to create a jffs2 filesystem on my NOR flash(mtd1). I really didn't know how to do it, so what I did was I completely erased the flash using bootloader. Then I simply tried this command

mount -t jffs2 mtd1 /mnt/NOR

I was surprised to see that this automatically created a filesystem on my flash, and I am able to create, delete files without any problem. If this is the case, what is the point in having an utility like "mkfs.jffs2". When are we supposed to use it, or is there something wrong in what I did.

Regards

What's your partition scheme? Where do you save kernel image?
