X problems in Gentoo 1.4
when compiling genkernel was finished, i did the other configuration stuff, installed grub, and reboot.
grub came up, booted into system perfectly.
now i install X and rebott. then i installed enlightenment and kde, another reboot.
did xf86config. then startx. comes to a screen with white bottom half and black top half, and a huge cursor thing in the middle.
obviously some config problems, but what?
how do i check where enligtenmrt and kde are install?,
so i can set up xdm thing to choose window manager at startx time?
any help is appriciated, hope i included enough info.
b.t.w i used the i686 GRP iso's with datestamp 20030806.
It would help to know what video card you got.
You can change the default displaymanager in /etc/rc.conf
# What display manager do you use ? [ xdm | gdm | kdm | elogin | entrance ]
DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"

card is an old trident microsystems.
problem is, i dont know ky displaymanager. i assume that one came w/ xfree that i installed. where are they located, and which one is best?
If you installed kde as per your post kdm should be available.But the displaymanager is just the thingy that asks you what session you want to start.
Trident - no idea.But the xfree error messages from /var/log might help.
