.wine folder
i tried to install the latest version of wine using the root account as advised on the winehq website and the .wine folder supposed to appear inside the /root folder but the problem is that it is not there. tried to find / -name .wine -print to not avail. any suggestions on this problem?
thanks in advance. |
first i was wondering if you can please show the link that says you should completely
install wine as root, and have the fake drive in the /root folder ? ... the only thing you should do as root is type "make install" or "installpkg wineblahblah.tgz" ... the rest of the steps will be done under your normal user account, and the .wine folder will also be in the /home/syahid folder (of course i assume syahid as your user account, change accordingly) ... and if it doesn't exist then you will have to manually structure it, which is shown in the docs on winehq, but i am going to go under the assumption that you are going to use ~/wine/tools/wineinstall to do everything for you which is recommend as it will structure the .wine folder for you ... and if you do use the wineinstall script then when it is ready to perform the make install step it will prompt you for the root password. basically what i am trying to say is, judging by the little info you gave, you went about installing wine incorrectly .. so go about the steps according as mentioned above ... |
mr ozz,
actually i am using wine-**.rpm file. yes i had to rpm -ivh wine*.rpm as root because user syahid doesn't have the permission to do that. and i am using winesetuptk to configure it. yes, i agree with you with the part that the whole installation is not using a root account because the .wine folder was created under /home/syahid (wow! nice guess!). i run winesetuptk as user "syahid". now my wine is ok and i am looking forward to run Lotus Notes 6.5.1 on it. thanks! :) |
ok cool, glad you got it going ...
you just threw me off cause in your distro you say slackware, so i assumed you were either using source, or tgz :S |
