Will Ubuntu's installer preserve my existing files?

Hey everyone!

I'm considering switching from SuSE Linux to Ubuntu Linux. (Let me know if this wouldn't be a good switch to make) I'd like to preserve my hundreds of files that I have under my SuSE Linux installation while I'm switching to Ubuntu. Can Ubuntu's installer do this?

If not, I think I'll stay with SuSE.

nope. if these files are in /home/user and you have a dedicated /home partition then actually.. yes. that's fine, just tell it not to format that partition (or just tell it to ignore it altogether) but other that isolation, how is it ever meant to know what it can or can't delete?

Oh, I figured that it might automatically save every file in the home directory. Not sure if I have a dedicated partition for home.

Thanks anyway!

if you did a default install, then i do not believe SuSe uses a dedicated home partition.
