BTW: you ARE the man! ;p
You actually don't want it to point to the hdlist on your machine (unless you've mirrored the cooker.RPM directory onto your local drive), but rather to the hdlist on the ftp site. It's usually up one directory from the cooker.RPM directory, so:
../base
Then the hdlist is a cz file so:
../base/hdlist.cz

You can browse the /base directory to make sure, also make sure it's just 1 directory up. On the ftp you have below it should just work by pointing the hdlists to:
../base/hdlist.cz

If you are still running into problems, I'll be happy to do a screen by screen run down for you when I get home, just let me know.

Cool

I'll let you know what happens.

I am using:

ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrake-devel/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS.cooker

and

ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/..Mandrake/base/hdlist.cz
----------------------------
I am still getting the following error message:
unable to update medium; it will be automatically disabled

<sigh>

I would really appreciate some help from here.

Hello! I'd like you to look at this page, I will refer to each picture by their names:
http://masterc.no-ip.org/mandrake/update.html

Ok, we start with standard.png, pretty self explainatory, straight up bone stock default KDE screen. Then click the Mandrake Control Center icon on kicker, it's the 8th icon from the left. Enter root's password, click OK.

That takes us to MandrakeCenter.png this is the Mandrake Control Center default screen. Click the Software Management icon.

Up pops Software1.png This is the where you will see the 2 icons we will use for the rest of this, both the Software Sources Manager, and the Install Software. For now, click the Software Sources Manager.

Up pops Software2.png Now click the add button, and proceed to Software3.png Click the 'ftp' button, then type in a name that you can easily remember in the Name blank. In the URL line, enter this url:
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/dist...e/RPMS.cooker/

Copy the link and paste it exactly. Then on the next line refer to Software4.png and input this exactly:
../base/hdlist.cz

No need for username/pass so now click OK. After a good few minutes (make sure you are connected to the net) it will return you to Software2.png Click Save and Quit. Now you are back at Software1.png

Now click the Install Software button and it should bring up SoftwareInstall1.png From there click the All packages, alphabetical button. Then in the search bar, type "kernel" And press enter. You should now see SoftwareInstall2.png Click the blank box next to the kernel which should be at the very top as seen in SoftwareInstall2.png

Now click INSTALL.

The rest should be history

HTH, really

If you still need a bit more help, just ask I'll be glad to further clarify any questions.

Cool

Truely above and beyond the call of duty! Thank you!

However, I am still getting the same message (Unable to update medium. Update will be canceled. )

I understand every step laid out by you...yet, I do not understand this message. I am connected wirelessly, if that matters, and my service is constant and un-interupted...?

I doubt it has anything to do with your connection, and even more I'm pretty sure it wouldn't matter that it's wireless.

Hmm, maybe it's the FTP site? Have you tried the others? Here's the one I tried (and it worked):
ftp://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Mandrake/Mandrake-devel/cooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS.cooker

I'll make sure it doesn't auto "URL" it so you can copy and paste exactly.

Cool

WooHoo. That appears to have worked...the only thing I did differently was to change ftp servers. Whatever the case may be I got it and installed it.

A huge "Thank you" goes out to you for your patience and support. Your guidance was great!

Thanks again!
