What linux should i use?


I tried to install mandrake linux 9.0 yesyedray but couldn't because i hadn't much space to create a partion for Linux!

I have a question,
what linux should i use in my pc?
suse? red hat? mandrake?


By the way is there any way i can install linux in my pc and see them in Boot magic 7? Because i have windows xp and 98 in my pc and they are in 2 partions, if i make a 3 partion will i see then linux at th eboot magic 7 when starting my pc?

And last question, where can i find unix without a graphical interface an dinstall them in my pc?

1) Depends on your needs. Mandrake is good for beginners.
2) Yes, boot magic should be able to boot your linux partition.
3) Unix without a graphical interface? The graphical interface (X-Windows) is optional so just don't install it. Linux is a clone of unix, but if you want real unix then there's FreeBSD.

If you're using windows then there's Partition Magic which you can use to resize your existing partitions to make room for linux. Remember you'll need a swap partition aswell as a root filesystem partition.

Asking "what distro do I use" starts getting close to inciting a flamewar about which is best. Personally, to those asking the question, I'd recommend mandrake. I myself started on redhat, but they're tending to aim more toward corporate users than hobbyist users, IMO. After years of experience on Linux, I came over to mandrake and have been thrilled. You can't really go wrong starting there.
