New to what?

How many commands?
Commands where?

In what language he wrote?
Who wrote what? If you are asking about the Linux kernel, C and very little assembler. If you ask about GNU, C. If you ask about OpenStack, Python. None of that was written by a single person.

Took him how long to finish?
Development on the Linux kernel started in 1991. Version 1 was issued in 1994, so three years. Version 4 this year, I think, so 24 years. GNU started in 1984 I think, so 31 years. OpenStack - 5 years. Pick what you like best.

The oldest known GNU/Linux operating system distribution, MCC Interm Linux, was big enough to fit on the old style floppy disks, so changes are it wasn't very big.
