I have built a new system AMD dual core and with a ATI Radeon HD 3600 GFX I was running ubuntu on my previous PC but decided to go back to XP on my new machine, however XP being XP its just not working with my new hardware properly so the question is whats the best disro with the best support for my graphics card?
I am not a linux Guru by any means just a nice easy to use disto without have to go through the hassle of installing drivers etc.
Oh and I hope not all the users on here are as Ignorant as rickh!
He isn't ignorant, what he said is true, if it works in one, it will work in them all.
If you install the drivers properly, it will work.
If you are using Ubuntu out of the box, it is likely using the 'radeon' driver instead of the 'catalyst' drivers from ATI. Every distro should ship with this driver. I don't think Ubuntu 7.10 even ships with 'radeonhd', which is a better open source driver for your card.

No 7.10 does not work as the other drivers i checked the forums, however as i said version 8 does with the catalyst drivers no problem.
The response given was as much help as a chololate fireguard, it would be like asking a mechanic would a corvet engine fit in a mini......yes if it fits in one it fits in all cars...yes that is true after a lot of mucking about and a lot of work...
Anyway got Ubunt 8 working like a dream and as this works will stick to their forum as they are a very helpfull bunch.
Glad you found something, have fun, I guess. You will need that Ubuntu forum, running pre-releases of their OS usually isn't smooth sailing.
If you installed the Catalyst driver on any distro, it would have worked fine though. It is very odd that Ubuntu is shipping with a proprietary driver out of the box, licensing issues usually don't allow that.
If you stick around as long as me and rickh have been around, you will come to realize that when it comes down to it, Linux is Linux, if hardware works on one, it will work on any of them. If installing a video driver is too much for you, buy a Mac because Windows makes you install drivers too.
