What's up with Yellow Dog?

I see it on LinuxISO.org, but I visited the website and I was unable to find a download for it, only on LinuxISO. So is it a free Linux?

LinuxISO says it has good hardware support and that's what I'm looking for.

Anyone else use this distro?

Hi

As far as I can see, there are no free downloads of Yellow Dog Linux. You may take a look at DistroWatch http://distrowatch.com/
to if you want to find other distributions. Any particular reason you want yellow dog? There are lots of other free distros with great hardware support out there

Well I was using LinuxISO as my only source. It was short and to the point with saying it had good hardware support. Plus they offer downloads so I presumed it to be free.

If not that then what do you suggest? I want a very non-bloated distro. I want to be able to add my own apps as I want and need, I don't want to start out with 92834982 pre-installed, ya know?

I followed the links to find this - a list of mirrors and a torrent.

IIRC, "Yellow Dog" was a Fedora (or, perhaps, Red Hat) release before there was a Fedora.

Edit: Fedora still uses yum, the "Yellow dog Update Manager" to manage Fedora updates.

Yellow Dog is Red Hat for PPC. AFAIK, it's not a Red Hat project, it's a fork. Red Hat was the Fedora before Fedora.

I've been wondering what's up with Yellow Dog as well.

it gave me the best results on my ibook, but 4.01 didn't include Firefox and Thunderbird. they are supposedly included in 4.1, which if I'm reading correctly, was released on January 6th. according to terrasoft's site, new versions should be available for download 2 weeks after their release. it's been more than two weeks, but as hard as I look I cannot find 4.1 for download. it is only available for purchase from YDL.net, and since this is still just a toy for me, I'm not up for spending that much on a distro for the ibook.

anybody know why 4.1 is not available for free yet? or when it might be?
