same here trying to get navyn workin, the install is not as good as vidalinux, if i didnt run dual boot i would be more willing to mess with it, but i have too many important files that cannot be backed up from an accident.... and thats with the new version 2005.1 maybe they can make a tutorial because ive run the installer and the partitioner but dont see any difference on my linux partitions....
If you are using VidaLinux to find out "what Gentoo is all about" then you've made a mistake... the best way to find out what gentoo is all about is by using gentoo.. even doing a stage 3 install will teach you much more, and has a tendancy to pull you into 'the gentoo experience'.
It's not hard to install, providing you follow the handbook. It is, however, time consuming. But there is great help on the gentoo forums as well as on #gentoo IRC on freenode.
Vidalinux is good for getting a gentoo-based system up quick.. such as your case, using a laptop.. but I just finished a stage 3 install on my notebook, and it wasn't too bad. I'm not done tweaking everything yet..
Good luck.. a lot of people seem to really like it...
been there, done that.... im hoping to get a laptop soon so i can have a gentoo only system.... i have several other computers but they are all dual boot
yup, vidalinux is great.... got a friend to use it too. ive used debian for years, and tried many other distros upon their release. im going back to vidalinux
Originally posted by colnago I find that the latest VidaLinux has some hesitation problem. After install and boot everything looks fine but while using it there are ~5sec hesitations every few minutes. I have checked DMA is on and I run the monitor and there is no swap or cpu=100% problem. The beta prior to the current one did not have this.
The "hesitation" is probably due to your harddrive. If you want, you can post the output of this command or send it to me in case I may miss your reply.
hdparm -tT /dev/hda
(assuming that you have Gentoo on your first harddrive...)
it was gentoo with a gui anaconda installer, so no complaints about "its not gentoo". but from what i read, gentoo is also implimenting an easier graphical installer, so vida will soon be meaningless. also, i posted about vida linux on slashdot a while back.
Originally posted by DAChristen29 ive used it. it was nice (im on vector linux now)

its vector 5.0 SOHO (i think its still prerelease, since the website says 4.3 is the latest). its slackware 10 based, so all slackware 10 packages will work.
