I have a system installed with Knoppix 5. I also have a 3 DVD pack of debian Etch. I cannot install etch on the machine as it doent recognize display driver, sound, ethernet etc etc.
Can I use the packages in debian etch for installing in the Knoppix system?
Firstly, it's more than unusual that Debian (which uses a vast set of resources compared to Knoppix) won't run on a machine Knoppix can handle, but that's a different story.
To your question, there's no definite answer. My advice: Try it, it might work, but be prepared for the case that it doesn't. But it doesn't have to work since the adaptions made for Knoppix may have broken some dependencies or they may even have used customized packages.
