upgrade/reinstall and /home
i'm planning on upping to SuSE 9 tonight (from 8.2).. and coming from a window's world i have a question.
i have my /home directory on another partition that i plan to keep. if i wipe my root partition clean and re-install, will there be lingering configuration files in my home directory that will cause hiccups or errors? i'm fine on re-installing the few apps that i'd need to re-install, but i want to avoid what problems i can. |
No, there won't be anything serious.
The most that can happen (maybe!) is if one of the packages you install has had a major upgrade, a configuration file in your home directory _might_ be incompatible. But that's easy to fix - exit the program, rename the config file and restart the program. John |
