I have recently tried numerous times to download packages via FTP from SuSE mirrors with no luck. I thought the problem may have been with the source of my installation. Thus, I open the YaST module "Change Source of Installation" and enter the name of a mirror server and a path. None of the paths I try, however, work. Using i386 (my architecture), I have gone to 'current', '9.0' and '9.1', each with no luck. Regardless of which mirror I choose, or which directory I choose, I consistently receive the same error message:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unable to create installation source
from URL 'ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distributions/suse/i386/current'.
Details:
ERROR(InstSrc:E_cache_dir_create)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is this a problem on my end? Or is there something wrong with the mirrors right now?
same problem here and found your post looknig for an answer..
great.
ive tried many sources that i can browse to w/http. problem must be a patch installed. which also seems to work.. annoying im trying to reinstall acpid from an rpm but cant..
anybody w/info this is so annoying seems like every time i touch somethiong its a 3 day project. i will say that if not messing with updates and new software installs its stable as a rock.
Finally succeeded. It's pretty dumb but took me forever to figure out.
Ok go into the ftp site (cut and paste address to browser) and carefully look at the layout of the directories.
In Yast, choose Change installation source and the FTP address should be something like "server.organization.org" (No need for ftp://) and the directory is usually, (don't start it with '/') pub/suse/i386/9.0 where 9.0 is the version number.
Now my problem was that this weirdo made a double directory on me. So instead of pub/suse/i386/9.0, he/she has pub/suse/suse/i386/9.0 (notice suse appears twice) which got me. So when I actually went into that directory using my browser and saw the anomally (sp?), I simply changed the directory path and boom it worked.
Hope this helps.
Rashid
Could you give a full ftp discription so that I can replicate what you did? I tried this on some UK mirrors that I want gcc components from and still couldn't get past the error
I have to say, i like this forum. It's always nice to know that I'm not the only person with a problem, and I've found the solutions to all the problems I've come up with here. Granted, I've just started again, but what the hey. =)
I searched the SuSE support pages because i had the same problem like you. I finally found the solution in here. Thanks! Somebody should add this to the SuSE support DB...
